Information

This section of the Driveline website contains a comprehensive, step-by-step guide of a typical domestic Driveline project.

Step One - Remove old driveway - Dig down to a set depth (dependent on ground) usually 8" (200-250mm) overall - Shuttering and surface drainage is fitted at this stage - ground fully compacted in preparation for a minimum of 4" of concrete to be laid.

Step Two - Pour stage - All concrete is barrowed in and placed where it is needed ready to be immediately screeded to the correct levels.

Step Three - Screeding stage - Screeding involves pulling the concrete until it is level and at required height, it is then 'tamped' and ready for the floating process.

Step Four - Floating-off stage - A magnesium bull float is used at this stage to smooth the concrete surface, in order to ready the surface for the application of the colour hardener.

Step Five - Colouring stage - Desired colour to be applied evenly, the surface is then floated-off again with magnesium trowels, a steel float finish is then applied to 'close' the concrete surface.

Step Six - Printing stage - Release agent is applied to the surface, colour is dependent on the desired effect. The required pattern is then imprinted onto the surface, using specialised printing mats and various hand tools.

Step Seven - Washing-off stage - Release agent is washed off, leaving a two-tone effect. Expansion joints are then applied every three metres, and on weak areas that are susceptible to cracking (such as manhole covers, house corners etc.) These expansion joints are cut to a depth of 65-75mm approx. Once this stage is complete, all windows, doors and surrounding areas are thoroughly cleaned and washed down.

Step Eight - Sealing stage - This is the final stage of the installation of your driveway. Acrylic sealant (gloss or matt) with an anti-slip agent is applied using either a soft brush or by spray, and all expansion joints are filled with silicone.
